Sannyâsîs, Bairâgîs, Sâdhüs, Babas and Udhâsîs) exist in almost every important
town and village
of Sindh . At present,
very few towns and villages in Sindh boast of such temples, maths (also called
matha) marhis and dhünis of Hindu and Sikh ascetics. Among such temples, marhis
and dhünis, the marhi of Veer Nath at Rato Kot, which is located about 70 km
north-east of Umarkot, is quite prominent.

Veernaath temple is situated around 20 kilometers away in
southern side of Khipro. The area is called Ratokot. This temple is said to be
1000 years old, however, beauty of this temple still attracts. It is a Jain
religion’s temple, Veernath was the founder of temple. He was a Nath Jogi
community. He converted several people to Nathism school of thoght.The full
name of this temple is “Shiri Vernath Ratokot Mathh”. It is also
called as Marrhi. Marhi is a place where followers of Veer Nath worship, while
term Math is used for place of worship of Naga Naths. The Marrhi is believed to
have been established Veer Nath himself who came from Haryana, now in India , later he
settled in Umerkot, a place located 70 kilometers away in south-west of Marhi.
A researcher says, Some
interviews were also carried out with members of the Charan, Sodha and
Maghanhar castes of Umarkot, Kharerio Charan, Chhor, Pabuhar and Densi. Both
in-depth and focussed interviews were undertaken to acquire knowledge about the
history, role and rituals of the Veer Nath sect of Nath Jogis. As well, all of
the samädhis, shrines, temples and marhis that were associated with the
Veernathi Sampräday were visited.
Hundreds
of years ago Ratokot was the part of Amar Sodha kingdom. There are several
marhees (temples) in different parts of Sindh, Ratokot means red fort. Now,
there are ruins of Ratokot but the temple is still there. Sindh was considered
as stronghold of Naths. The ruler of Ratokot Veeso Sodho took Veer Nath to his
town and built a temple for him. Spread on eight acres, it has now become an
attractive place for tourists, researchers and Saadhu. This temple is very
famous and Hindu religious people visit for Yatra. There are four deities in
this temple, Veernath, Bholenaath, Kirshnadevi and Kaanha. Here Veernath is
leader of other Naths as the temple is named after his name.
The architecture of this temple is very beautiful worth
visiting for lovers of culture and history. Every year Veernath festival is
celebrated to thank god. It is one night carnival where they sings the bhujans.
Hindu believers travel from across the country to reach this worship place and pay
homage to this temple. They revised their custom and civilization. Another
shrine of Veernath is Pir pithoro in western side from this temple. The temple
is also mentioned in Hindu religious books. The Naths were mentioned in several
historical accounts and Sufi poets. Shiri Veernath Guru is spiritual the
"Pir" of Hindus.
The
Rajputs used to come here to manage, support the temple and the expenses. Here
are graves of ancestors of Rajputs. According to their pandit, "The
government doesn't support this temple, due to the lack of security gold was
stolen from this temple and haven't been recovered yet".
Ratokot was a famous where a number of temples were built
but the temple of
Veernath was very famous
at that time. Naths were the specials for Sodhas. Here is the other Nath is
Gorakh Nath which is identified with Shiva located in Dadu district. The Nath
was the vital community for Sodhas and people of state because Naths taught
proper. Their teaching was strongly associated with perfection of body. It
simply defined they were Master of yogic power.

Veernaath

old historical ancient city. The beauty of this temple attracts the people

From the above verse of sufi poet Veer nath was a Nath yogi. he was a founder of veernathi simpraday. Now here is discussed about the role played by veernath in converting several people to "Nathism"and his disciples whose samadhis are still sources for solaces for the lower hindu castes. The province of Sindh was considered as a stronghold of the Nath Jogis and, as such, there were many sacred places of the Jogis in Sindh.

The young Kanphata Jogis believe that one of the disciples of Shambho Nath namely, Bhoora Nath, piereced his ears and became a Kanphata Jogi. Since then, a number of Kanphata Jogis requlary visit the marhi of Veer Nath.
This temple is also a source of solace for the people of the lower tribes who visit it regularly in the hope of the fulfillment of their wishes, which they believe will be granted to them by Veernath and his disciples.
