In the field of education digital transformation has played an important role in Pakistan, modernizing the education system to the extent of global classrooms and online portals of every institution. Strengthening non-formal basic education through teacher training use of information and communication technologies. By putting CCTV cameras in the institutions one can check and maintain discipline more effectively preventing cheating, stealing and noise etc. Access to distance education through expansion of open Universities and virtual university campuses in remote areas. The Strengthening of online library service has made it convenient for the students to read, download and share any book at any time saving their time and money. Further more the Punjab government has implemented a software for student registration and results. To curb paper leakage and cheating this software creates several versions of each exam automatically and calculate accurate results within seconds.
On 27 April 2017, Punjab Chief minister Mian Shahbaz Sharif inaugurated free Wi-Fi project, giving an all time free connectivity to all the educational institutions of Lahore, Rawalpindi, Multan, Faisalabadand and Bhawalpur to facilitate the students with effective learning. Digitalization enables personalized learning, now each student can learn what he/she wants to learn through internet.
In the field of education digitalization has also changed the way of administration, which makes the system user-friendly and time and cost saving. It also facilitates the maintenance of large volumes of information such as: registration, admissions, student information, time table, transport, attendance, library, salary, expenses, reports etc among various departments in an institution which helps in good governance.
Digitalization gave way to the online exam, making the examination process convenient for both teachers and students. The time taking and tiring tasks have now become the matter of a single click or touch. Thanks to digital transformation.
However in some cases students are misusing the concept of digitalization. Advance educational institution and Research center survey found that nearly 90% of teachers believe that digital technologies were creating and easily distracted generation. About 60% said it decreases student’s ability to write and communicate face to face , and almost half said it hurt critical thinking and their ability to do homework , also 76% of teachers believed that students are being dependent on internet to find quick answers, leading to a loss of concentration.
As much as digitalization has given us benefits in the field of education, it has some disadvantages too . Its us humans who make use of everything and it is in our hands to make better use of it.
