How do you see Radio then and now?
“When i came into this field radio was the only facilitating medium in pakistan, people used to listen and follow radio programs, dramas and music. At that time radio made number of well known artists who rose to great heights abroad, common people used to write us letters in which they used to tell us about their likes and dislikes, whether it is flood or storm radio was considered as the number one authentic and instant source of information. Radio used to give real analysis on political, cultural and literacy related events. News as well as discussion were aired every hour, listeners eagerly would wait for their favourite programs on radio. We producers used to compete with each other in producing quality programs. As technology grew over time media became a more general field in the sense that various medium were introduced which severely dispersed the audience of radio listeners, like advent of tv as well as fm channels. A more radical advancement took place as a result of introduction of social media which completely overtook all the other mediums.”
From poetry writing and broadcasting which field do you think is more powerful to convey message to the audience?
“Poetry or any written piece in books and magazines is read by 2000 to 5000 people proximately as literacy rate is low in our society, but if the same thing is broadcasted through Radio it would go to double number of listeners then of readers. so i would say broadcasting is more powerful to convey message.”
